What Makes a Great TikTok Creator Brief
A weak brief kills conversion before the first frame. Here's the template we use to brief 1,200+ creators.
Most briefs fail for the same reason: they tell the creator what the brand wants to say, not what makes someone stop scrolling and buy. A weak brief produces content that's technically on-message and commercially useless. We've briefed over 1,200 creators across beauty, wellness, fashion, and home — this is the structure that consistently produces content that converts.
The hook comes first, always
If the brief doesn't specify the hook — the literal first 1.5 seconds of the video — the creator will default to whatever they normally do, which is usually a slow product intro that gets skipped. We give creators 2–3 proven hook patterns from our own performance data and let them pick the one that fits their voice.
Do's and don'ts, not a script
Full scripts produce stiff, obviously-sponsored content that underperforms. Instead, we give creators a short do/don't list: do show the product in actual use, don't read out brand taglines, do mention the specific pain point the product solves, don't oversell with "the best I've ever tried" language that TikTok users have learned to distrust.
One clear call to action, tied to urgency or specificity
Vague CTAs like "check it out" underperform. We brief creators toward specific, low-friction CTAs — "link in my TikTok Shop, I got 20% off my first order" beats "check the link in bio" every time we've tested it.
The template
Every brief we send includes: the product's single strongest selling point, the target customer in one sentence, 2–3 hook options, a do/don't list, a specific CTA, and 3 examples of top-performing content in the category (ours or competitors'). Creators who get this brief produce usable content on the first attempt more than 80% of the time — versus under 40% with a vague, brand-voice-only brief.
